Post 2007 was started in August 1997 by Federal Way Police Officers Grossnickle, Hwang (now Deputy Chief), Anderson, Heavener, Wolf, Flahaut, Canaan, and Tucker.    It started with 10 members with a maximum membership of 20 Explorers.  The post has had over 100 juveniles involved in the program since inception and currently have one member complete the program and is a Police Officer with Federal Way.

 

In 1998, The program gave Exploring a boost by starting the Federal Way Challenge.  Lt. Canaan rallied Advisors and using resources available from the department, created the Challenge.    This competition brought members from the the department together to create the only annual Exploring Competition currently in the State of Washington.  Click here for more information.

 

The members of the post have contributed 19,641 hours of service to the City of Federal Way to date.

 

If one was to use the Volunteer value, FW Explorers saved the citizens of Federal Way- $363,358 since inception. 

 

The post gets no direct funding from the City, all financial assistance is fundraised by members of the post.
